During this year’s tour, the organizers recommend that you enjoy the unique exterior of many of the homes and their architectural appointments with the self-guided brochure that will be provided. Then take advantage of a select few houses whose owners welcome you into their homes for a private viewing of their interior design talents. Entertainment along your tour will also add to the pleasure of your experience.

Stroll down the streets of S. Alamo, Adams, Guenther, Madison, Washington, and King Williams and marvel at the unusual use of brick, limestone, metal and woods in the ornate architectural designs of some of the "first ladies of Texas." The King William Historical District was the first in Texas, and today is being revitalized through the efforts of private homeowners, the San Antonio Conservation Society and the King William Association.

Combining old world styles with the imagination of contemporary tastes, the homeowners in King William are proud to live within the history of a bygone era. You will notice that some of the houses are restored to their original beauty, many are being restored today, while others are still waiting for some visionary to expose the beauty that still exists, forgotten for a hundred years, yet ready to be revealed.

The peoples of this district are as unique as the homes. Artists, lawyers, retired homeowners, business professionals, architects, bankers, entrepreneurs, and students all live together sharing the energy of this small community. Bed and Breakfasts, unique restaurants, shops, warehouse condos, artist communities, and big business co-exist and support each other without prejudice or question.

On this day we also encourage you to take advantage of the South end of the San Antonio River and walk the landscaped shores of "this little secret", rambling through the heart of King William. Experience the serenity nestled in the center of a bustling major city. Maybe someday you may choose to be a proud member of this great community. For now, however, the friends of this district welcome you to enjoy their neighborhood.
